Q&A/FAQ recap

I held a Q&A sesh on IG the other day and got loads of FAQs, so I thought I would combine them all into one place as a point of reference for the future! You can also always check my AMA highlight on my profile as well.

Q: Advice for apartment hunting?

A: Get very intentional with what you’re looking for. Write down everything you want and everything you’re open to sacrificing. Make a vision board on Pinterest and then collage it into a phone background. More tips on this blog post.

Q: Where is your coffee table from?

A: I thrifted and restored it! It was a ton of work and I have major respect for people who do that kinda thing all the time. More info on how I did it and what I used here.

Q: How did you find your house?

A: Believe it or not it’s actually a studio, not a whole house! I have more info on how I found it on this blog post.

Q: Where is your art from?

A: My art all around my home has been collected over many years. Some I’ve made, some I’ve thrifted, some my friends or family have made! Biggest advice when it comes to art is to take your time and invest (whether it’s $2 or $200) in pieces that speak to YOU. Doesn’t matter why it does, but just that it does.

Q: What do you do for work?

A: I used to be a FT graphic designer & social AD, but now I currently do a couple different things (as most freelancers do haha). Content creation, interior design consulting, I had been selling my art but recently hit pause due to issues with my printers/shippers lately, and I also am a pt ihss care giver for a family member rn.

Q: I want to buy one of your prints, but your site is down! When will it be up again?

A: My site is up! But yes my prints are still on pause. I’m not sure when I’ll resume. I’m waiting until I can get in contact with the printers to see if their shippers have fixed their shipping issues (some prints were getting stuck in the warehouse but marked as shipped) or find a new printer. I will add to my stories when prints are back up. Thanks for being patient! I've also had requests for digital prints, but I'm going to pass on that idea for now as I've done that in the past and it has lead to others ripping off my artwork as their own.

Q: Whats your go-to fave tops/tees?

A: I love a classic white top that has some sort of texture to it. I’ve thrifted a lot of mine but have tried to find similar options when possible! Also love a good striped sweater.

Q: How did you start your career in interior design?

A: Idk if I would consider myself having a career in interior design but I appreciate the compliment! I have been playing with design/home decor since I was a kid (anyone else make shoebox houses and decorate them as if they were a real house? Rearrange your whole childhood room at 11pm because you just needed to see it in a different way? Cut out homes and decor from magazines to make vision boards?) I’ve also lived in loads of places and every time I move it’s like a new canvas so I’ve just gotten to practice and explore and refine my style throughout life! Also hours of reading home decor books, Pinterest, watching related content on the apps/tv, etc. have taught me so much over the years as well.

Q: What's your favorite way to find inspiration to create?

A: Nature & rest & exploration. They are the best way to get rejuvenated and yearning to create in my opinion 🙂

Q: How did you adjust to living alone? I just started living alone and am having trouble adjusting.

A: Congrats, it’s a big step! I’ve lived alone for many years and have always loved it. I am such an introvert who likes things done in very specific ways and loves my alone time, so living with other people was actually always much harder for me. If you’re struggling with it try hosting! I used to host dinner parties and that was such a great way to have an evening with friends at home. But hosting even if it’s just having friends over for a pot of coffee is always so lovely as well.

Q: Where is your bedding from?

A: All bedding (and any home item that wasn’t thrifted) is linked in my ShopMy which is always in my bio 🙂

Q: Where is your couch cover from? And what couch styling tips do you have?

A: It’s not a couch cover! I DIY’d it with a bunch of linens. I wrote a blog post that goes into it step by step! As far as styling tips I think it depends on the rest of the room, but maybe one universal tip could be to style with pillows that pull in colors from the rest of the room that vary in shape and color and pattern!

Q: Where are your throw pillows from?

A: I got mine from a shop on Etsy. They’re handmade/one of a kind so you likely won’t see my exact ones there anymore, but this is the shop!

Q: How do you keep your place so organized?

A: I’m super selective with what I bring into my home, and what I do bring in has a spot! if I don’t use it, I give it to a friend or someone in the community (can mark as “free to a good home” on Fb marketplace or Nextdoor). I’ve also had to be super creative with stuff I DO need to store, but have found good boxes for this (storage on my bookshelf, closet and waterproof bench for “garage” items). I also shove some stuff under the couch 😅

Q: How did you build this dreamy life you have?

A: Not sure how to answer this question, there’s so much that goes into an answer like this haha. Years and years of getting to know myself and what I value and what I do and don’t want in my life. Patience. Openness to taking risks. Building a portfolio of fake projects until they were real projects/jobs. Openness to changing and shifting gears. Quitting and starting something new. Saving money. Investing money. Trusting my gut. Working hard. Letting ease guide me. Letting go of guilt for wanting the life I want (still working on this). Getting out into the world and being open to new experiences (workaway is a great resource for cheap travel). Working jobs I hated. Working jobs I loved. Developing true friendships. Letting go of friendships. Falling out of friendships. Not settling. Settling. The list goes on. But also remember that what you see on social media is a highlight reel. I don’t share the hard stuff, but there most definitely is hard stuff.

Q: How do you plan your content?

A: I don't really plan my content unless it's a brand project! I kinda just create as I go. If I'm feeling inspired by an outing, the light one evening, or have a fun idea come to mind I'll pretty much create/capture/edit/and post on the spot (or save as a draft to post another day if I know I'll be away from home or have like 4 ideas come to life in one day hahah).

Q: Where do you get your home goods?

A: All my home items have been collected over many years! Lots thrifted, some from small shops, some handmade by me or friends or family, flea markets, artist markets, things from travels, and also a few random items from Home Goods. Its a huge mix from years over time.

That covers most of the questions that we're asked, however there were a few more minor ones on ig that I didn't cover here! To read all AMA questions and answers you can head over to my "ama" highlight on IG.

Until next time,

xx
