Hello friends! Week two of this new blog post series and oh man it's making me realize how fast a week goes by. I'm going to try a bit of a different format this week, let me know if you like this one more or less than last weeks!
Instagram post recap:
Sunday, July 7th: We had some really lovely weather last week and I tried to soak up as much of it as I could while I was in town (for those of you who don't know, I'm half the time at home and the other half up in my hometown helping out my dad). I spent the 4th along the river (shared in the carousel) which was suuuuper lovely and I hope to spend some more time along the river this summer!
Monday, July 8th: More sweet moments from the sunny weekend! This video shared footage spanning across two days. The first chunk was from a day when I went into Carmel by the Sea to grab a breakfast burrito (which ended up being a sandwich because by the time I got there they had stopped serving breakfast lol), which was nice to get out of the house but CBTS was PACKED. I totally forgot it was a holiday weekend when I went into town and boy oh boy was I overstimulated. I pretty much just ate, walked around the cottages and then went home to decompress lol. The second chunk of the video was from another day when I went on a beach walk along Monterey Beach followed by a super lovely calm evening at home.
Tuesday, July 9th: More clips from the previous dreamy evening at home with a little note about that time of day. Not only has the evening light this summer been super calming, but I really do look forward to evenings. For some reason, even if its a "do nothing day," I always find myself finally able to relax once evening hits. It's almost like I feel the collective energy from the world around me settle down and stop the hustle. It just feels like everything is finally calm and ready for rest. Anyone else feel this way?
Wednesday, July 10th: Admittedly, I knew this post was going to cause a frenzy. I shared it on tiktok and in a matter of hours it went viral hitting over a million views. Over the past couple of months of sharing my home online I've had a few of the "your home is sad beige" comments (which I know my home is not lol) but it really got me thinking about how someone said "that home is so sad beige" just once to someone online and then it just took off from there without deeper consideration. As someone who commented on my video said, people have just started using it as a blanket retort for any home that isn't filled with color. I think some people forget that even if a house has minimal color there can be so much character with textures, patterns, materials, etc. and you don't always need color to make a home cozy. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of newer homes that lack color and character, however have y'all seen the economy lately? Sometimes that's just what people can afford (and/or they don't have time/resources to thrift unique pieces like I did). Or maybe that's just what they want? Who knows! As long as they're not ripping down historic landmarks or ruining beautiful furniture (which yes I know some people are) let's just let people live their lives and not hate on them for it. It's so sad that America is building all these uggo new modern boring bland gross buildings, but at the end of the day it's housing and people need housing. It is such a blessing and privilege to live in a home with character these days, lets not make people feel badly about their homes if they don't have the house of their dreams.
Thursday, July 11th: Just a little shot of my "mudroom" so to speak. I never had a mudroom growing up and only found out that they're a "thing" in maybe college? I think they're so cute and very practical/helpful (I'd imagine especially so if you have kids or live in a country area). Although I don't have one (yet) I've tried to romanticize my front door space with not only the practical items (a spot for shoes and coats) but also with some various little art pieces, turning a random space into a lovely little nook to enjoy and use.
Friday, July 12th: Another admission, I had this post pre-recorded and saved in my drafts for weeks. Since I've been at my dads a lot more these past few months I've gotten in the routine to prerecord a bunch of content to have on hand to share if it's been a busy week with him. Part of me feels fraud doing this, but part of me also says "well, this is my business, businesses have content calendars planned ahead of time for months" (that used to be my job when I was still in corporate so I know this from first hand experience). I also really love sharing posts and connecting with people over it. Even if it's not in real time. Sometimes on hard days it brings me joy (aka a shot of dopamine lol) to share a video I worked on weeks ago (like its finally making its way into the world) or to create a video with clips I shot previously at the cottage mixed with nature shots from my hometown. Whenever someone comments "you live the dream life!" I try to remind them that it's just clips from dreamy moments, it's not my whole reality. Sharing the dreamy moments is not only an escape for the viewers, but for me as well.
Saturday, July 13th: This little collection of video clips was shot and edited the weekend prior during that heat wave that passed through town! Was a mix of emotions that day... the feeling of "I should be doing something! But my friends are out of town. But I could still do something alone! But I really just want to be at home. But it would be good to get out of the house!" So I decided a few hours at the beach just sitting and people watching and not doing anything too overwhelming but still getting outdoors mixed with a loungey late afternoon/evening at home would be a happy mix.
FAQs of the week:
Where is your patio furniture from? I've thrifted it over time (took me MONTHS to find what I was looking for), but you can find alternative ideas linked in my ShopMy if you don't have the time or energy to thrift!
Where is your blue and white stripe sweater from? Gap! You can also find it linked in my ShopMy.
Can you share where your coffee table is from? My coffee table was also thrifted and then I put a lot of work into restoring it. You can find a blog post going into those details here.
What do you shoot with? iPhone 13pro max.
Books/audio books I read this week:
I'm still reading The Perfect Vintage, but it hit a lull for me so I had to pause for a bit (I usually read 2-3 books at a time).
I listened to Cassandra In Reverse and totally recommend it! I liked the narrator which is a major plus, but I'm sure it would be just as good to read on paper as well. It's kind of a time travel book, but it's unlike any other time travel book I've read before. The main character and her journey through the book is super unique and it just feels like a huge hug while at the same time making you pause and think and reflect.
Next up: I've just started listening to Cottage By The Sea by Debbie Macomber which seems promising and I've also just bought Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand which I'll be taking with me on my trip to The Cape (totally setting the vibes lol).
That's it for this week, see you next week!
xx
