I frequently get asked what I'm reading or watching, so I've decided to try a new series where I round up all the novels and movies I watched per month. This is the third month I'm trying out this series, I'm curious, do people like it? If so, let me know in the comments or shoot me a DM.
*Where to listen: I use the Libby App all the time which is free to everyone who has a library card. I also pay for Spotify and if you do you get 15 hours of an audiobook per month, so basically two shorter books or a book and a half.
*Where to read: I thrift a lot of my books, use the library a ton, download checked out Libby books to my kindle, and occasionally treat myself to a crisp new book from a book store as well.
*Where to watch: most everything I watch can be found on Hulu, Disney+, Prime, MAX, or Netflix.
December Faves
Watched:
Resident Alien (season 1): My sister recommended this show to me and was so happy she did. It was really sweet and funny and a nice "distraction watch." If you start in and at first are like "what the heck?" give it until the end of the episode and you'll be hooked (or you wont, and then it's not for you lol).
Black Dove (a few episodes): I really wanted to love this because it has Kiera Knightly and I love her, but it was just a bit too intense for me at the moment. I'll probably pick it back up again in the future, but the guns/blood/etc was just too much for me right now! Intriguing plot line though if you're in the right mental space for it!
Silo (season 2): I looooooved Silo season 1 so I was stoked when I saw season 2 come out! Sadly, it's not as good as season 1 in my opinion, however I am watching every episode as it comes out because I do really want to know where the story goes. If you haven't watched season 1 yet I highly recommend it.
Fly me to the moon: Sweet movie about the moon landing. Leans into the "but was it real???" side of things and has you rooting for the main characters love story.
Christmas movie rewatches: I wont list them all, but I rewatched many classics and a few new-to-me's as well (like This Is Christmas, it was so cute!!)! I have another blog post here that dives into holiday movie reccies.
Read:
Leaving Time, by Jodi Picoult - This one took me a little while to get into, but ended up being a real pager turner at the end! Totally did not expect the outcome and was happily surprised at how much I ended up enjoying it.
Anxious People, by Fredrik Backman - Everyone should read this book. I don't know what else to say. Everyone should read this. So perspective shifting and heart wrenching and heart filling. I listened to it on Libby, but I was mentally highlighting so many parts of it. If you do anything this year please read this book.
Comfort & Joy, by Kristin Hannah - I was browsing the holiday section of the thrift shop and found this book tucked in and it had a festive cover so I decided why not grab it (it was only $1!). It was a very easy read, and the first half was extremely hallmark vibes, but I kept reading and once I got halfway through I said outloud "ohhhhh ok, here we go" and then it got into the plot twist. It was cute, but not a "must read" IMO!
My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry, by Fredrik Backman - This one took me a moment to get into, I thought it was really sweet, but coudn't figure out where the story was going. Once it did get going though, like all Backman novels I'm coming to realize, it became such a heartfelt story.
Thats it for December! I'm a bit late on this post and it's already Jan 6, so I've already finished my first Jan novel which I'm very very excited to include in next months (slash this months haha) round up! As always if you have any reccies feel free to send me a DM on IG!
xx, Rose
