Watched & Read, May

Hello friends! It's a new month (cant believe summer is so soon) so that means it's time to share all the shows, movies, and books I enjoyed last month.

*Where to listen: I use the Libby App all the time which is free to everyone who has a library card. I also pay for Spotify and if you do you get 15 hours of an audiobook per month, so basically two shorter books or a book and a half.

*Where to read: I thrift a lot of my books, use the library a ton, download checked out Libby books to my kindle, and occasionally treat myself to a crisp new book from a book store as well.

*Where to watch: most everything I watch can be found on Hulu, Disney+, Prime, MAX, or Netflix.

*Side note: I got my kindle second hand from my dad who had an extra (thanks dad!) and have never actually bought a kindle book from Amazon and instead hook up my @libby.app account and only read borrowed books on it. Give it a try if you’re looking to limit or no longer purchase from Amazon. It takes a little finagling, but just give it a quick google/YouTube search and step by step instructions will pop up on how to do this!

May Faves

Watched:
  • Poker Face: I started watching this series with my dad (who I always watched Columbo with, there are some nods to Columbo in it), and got hooked! I binged a few episodes, but now taking it at a slower pace and almost done with season 1. If you like mystery crime solving shows it's a fun watch.

  • Spirited Away: I grew up watching Studio Ghibli and frequently rewatch Kiki's, but haven't revisited Spirited Away since I was a kid! I remember it really scared me as a child and honestly it still did give off some scary vibes, but I appreciated it in a new way as an adult. If you have never watched anything from Studio Ghibli I highly recommend! Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro are top faves, but I also love Castle In The Sky and Ponyo.

Read:
  • The Tenant by Freida McFadden: This was my bookclubs book pick for May and if I'm being honest I almost didn't finish it. I've read other Freida books and enjoyed them, so it was a bit of a bummer when I wasn't totally sucked in the same way. Similar to her other books, it's a high stress creepy horror-ish book, but disguised as a story that could happen to an everyday person. Dissimilar from her other books, it was told from a male POV, which is I think one of the reasons it was a turn off for me. However, I did push through (on x2 speed audiobook lol) and I'm glad I did, because once I got to the twists and turns and everything started unraveling I enjoyed how it all wrapped up. I wouldn't call it a must read, and by no means is it a feel good book, but if you want something a little creepy and mysterious then give it a go!

  • The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young: This was what I like to call a time warping mystery. An intriguing read that follows a young woman named June through different versions of time as she figures out how to escape a curse that's been placed on her family for decades. There are some intense bits, and a few slow bits, but I definitely recommend the read, it's interesting and will twist your mind as you're trying to figure out the puzzle along with June.

  • The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods: Similar to the previous read, this one also plays with a bit of magic and time warping as well. If you liked June Farrow or The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (a rec from a previous month), then you'll probably like this one too! While it started out a little slow IMO, it really picked up and I was eager to flip pages (metaphorically, as I listened to this one on audiobook) and find out what happens. There was part of the story that did make me cry, and parts that made me slam my steering wheel as I listened to the audiobook and shout "damn men!!!" but also parts that warmed my heart and filled me with happiness. It's a great read and I really recommend it.

That’s it for now! Stay tuned for next months shares and drop me a message/comment if you have any reccies for my TBR!

Until next time xx, Rose
